The budget crisis facing Dearborn Public Schools becomes more urgent with each passing day, as teacher jobs and student programs face difficult cuts. As school districts across the state wait to see if there will be any action in Lansing to restore all or partial funding to education, school administrators are busy making plans to adjust their spending based on the outcome at the Capitol. These mid-year changes have caused plenty of confusion and in communities through out the state, and Dearborn is no exception.
“As we continue our efforts in Lansing to restore school funding we need to keep people informed on the impact these cuts have on our budget,” said Dearborn Schools Superintendent Mr. Brian Whiston.
The meeting will cover a brief review of school funding in Michigan, recap the current year budget and the budget reduction plan, with a look ahead to next year. There will bet time after the presentation for questions, comments and suggestions.
All three meetings will be shown on the district’s cable channel (Comcast 19, WOW 15) and streamed live on the district’s website. Those unable to attend the meeting will be able to take part through a special e-mail address and “Chat” feature during the live webcast.

What new can possibly be said about this issue?? The schools are 15 million bucks in the hole and the state ain't going to bail them out. Cut staff, cut programs and cut bus service. Time for the DPS to make the same tough choices Ford made.
You may be right Karl, but ti doesn't make this situation any less painful.
Oops I meant 'IT'!
There didn't appear to be many people attending the meeting last night.
I think the writing is on the wall, Donna. We're read it here and in the papers. Heads will roll unless Lansing puts back those funds or the teachers take a cut or freeze like Detroit teachers did last night. What more is there to discuss?
It will be very interesting to see the outcome of the teachers vote today - are they willing to take a paycut to save their fellow teachers???
Sorry, I thought it was the teachers voting but it was the support staff.
